Pininfarina Sintesi

The Sintesi is not only a testament to the creativeness of our design team," declared Andrea Pininfarina, Chairman and CEO of the Group, "but it reiterates our historical ability to anticipate stylistic and technological solutions that we will see in the cars of the future."The Pininfarina Sintesi is a sports car with four doors and four seats, developed by a highly innovative approach: it does not consider the car as a shape that covers the mechanicals, but one that gives a shape to the mechanicals around the passengers, starting from the latter. This approach, which is known as "Liquid" Packaging, has overturned traditional volumetric balances, improving weight distribution and lowering the centre of gravity, which are important elements for driving dynamics

Citroen Hypnos Concept

Presented at the Paris Motor Show, the Citroën Hypnos is a design study for a luxury ecological crossover featuring the HYmotion4 hybrid powertrain, a bold and sleek exterior design and an original colorful interior focused on dreamlike technology.
Feasible from an industrial standpoint, this architecture features a front diesel engine and a rear axle-mounted electric motor, which optimizes dynamic performance and traction while delivering low fuel consumption and emissions (4.5 l/100 km and 120 g/km of CO2.

World's first electric sportscar - 23 July 8

The United Kingdom has launched an electric sports car, in an effort to give eco-cars an image boost. The key to popularising electric cars is to make them more desirable, simply being environmentally friendly is not enough for most people to buy the product.Electric cars, are often pictured small, impractical, and sometimes even ugly vehicles.however, a company in the UK has unveiled "Lightning" an electric sports car - claiming to revolutionise the industry with its looks and technology.

Lightning GT EV sports car

This month will see the debut of the Lightning GT electric sports car at the British Motor Show on July 23. The nano-titanate battery pack will provide 740-HP and a 0-60 sprint in just four seconds. Those batteries have also been spaced around the car to give it a 48/52 weight balance, which could theoretically give it the kind of handling to match its looks. The batteries power four permanent magnet brushless motors, one at each wheel, which negates the need for a gearbox, axles, and transmission -- or transmission troubles. Each wheel will also boast independent traction control and regenerative braking. Inside, the car gets all the mod-cons, including A/C, satnav, and leather.
The makers claim a 90-mile range on a ten-minute charge, and running costs will be at least five times less than a car that gets 50-mpg U.S. That is, of course, assuming the car actually makes it to market. If so, and it's priced somewhere close to the Tesla, it should do well.

Lightning GT electric car

In June 2007, The Lightning Car Company announced its intent to develop electric technology for a luxury British sports car – the Lightning GT. Today sees the unveiling of its evolutionary design. This super car with its outstanding presence & performance is set to put British sports car innovation well and truly back on the map. Designed to accommodate the latest battery and motor technology and reflect its 100% electric power and performance, the electric Lightning prototype is being hand-built by a small team of passionate British engineers, designers and collaborators. The production version will be unveiled during the second half of 2008. The electric Lightning GT and Sports versions are now available to pre-order and deposits of £15,000 are being accepted. The Lightning Car is powered by a 700 hp engine and can make the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 4 seconds and can hit a top speed of 130 mph.Whilst the rest of the automotive world engages in the hybrid, hydrogen or electric debate, the Lightning Car Company firmly believes its 100% Electric Lightning GT will help kick start the market for performance EV’s. Without a significant positive shift in perception, electric motoring will remain a huge compromise in the eyes of driving enthusiasts and therefore fail to impress the masses. Our vision is shared by the world’s biggest car maker, General Motors, who believes the global oil supply has peaked and a switch to electric cars is inevitable. The design team has created a successor to the petrol Lightning GT. Combining the spirit, heritage, individuality and drama of the original car with a dynamic and contemporary design language moves it into a new era and, in doing so, embraces the new technologies and innovative architecture that reside beneath its skin. Subtle creases, positive and negative sections add a sense of strength and finesse to the dramatic surfaces of the car while retaining an understated, yet distinctive British Grand Tourer aesthetic. The Lightning’s interior will also be designed to complement the unique electric driving experience.

Venturi Volage Concept

The result of close technological collaboration between Venturi Automobiles and Michelin, the Venturi Volage, presented for the first time at the 'Mondial 2008' (Paris Motor Show), marks a major step forward in the evolution of the Automobile.

With 4 drive wheels with active suspension, the Venturi Volage has no equivalent. 'Michelin Active Wheel' technology in fact incorporates 2 electric motors per wheel (1 for suspension and 1 for drive), ie. a total of 8 electric motors piloted in real time by spearhead electronics.

The active electric shock absorber system allows for total adaptation to the type of road surface and driving. Combining Michelin's experience in the area of surface liaison with that of Venturi for the chassis, the Venturi Volage represents in its road holding, drivability and silent functioning, the sum of today's automotive technology.

Saturn Flextreme Concept

This is yet another GM concept built to showcase the company's E-Flex electric propulsion system. It's called the Saturn Flextreme concept and other than the badge, it's virtually the same vehicle as the Opel Flextreme that debuted in Frankfurt last fall. Given that the two companies are sharing almost every car in their lineups these days, GM figured it only made sense that they share concept vehicles as well.

In this case, the Flextreme's E-Flex drivetrain consists of an electric motor powered by lithium-ion batteries. Saturn says the system is good for 34 miles of all-electric driving. When that juice runs dry, a 1.3-liter diesel engine kicks in to recharge the batteries and extend the range.
